S.S. Cedric
On April 26,1909, 22-year-old Alert Iverson SOLAAS (later Albert SOLBERG) set out from Bergen, Norway to America. He arrived in Liverpool, England on April 30 where he boarded the S.S. Cedric of the White Star Line. Nine days later, May 9, 1909, Alert and 600 others arrived in New York. The Cedric's manifest shows numerous Norwegians, but three of them, like Alert, have Madison Wisconsin listed as their final destination. Right below Alert's name is 22-year-old Ole Hermanson HEGGEBO of Bofjord Sogn, who corresponded with Alert in Wisconsin and North Dakota. Ole was still in Madison in 1929 according to the city directory. Sweit Herman and wife Synneve RUSKEDAL, also of Bofjord Sogn, listed Kris MEUAS, Sweit's brother-in-law in Madison, as their nearest relative in America. Alert lists Kris as "friend" rather than naming any relative.

Do you have information about the Heggebo, Ruskedal or Meuas people? If so, please contact Marv@SolbergFarms.com.
